BUTTERFLIES

I was asked to cut out a couple of butterflies - I thought it would be interesting to press shapes into the form

Butterflies stamped from 1.2mm copper plate

Xerces. 2013 1.2mm Copper, 23 x 15.5cm. $65

Monarch. 2013 1.2mm Copper, 38.5 x 25cm. $90

This is the first try at pressing patterns into copper plate. Dies are cut using the CNC table. The copper is 1.2mm thick. Liver of sulfur patina is applied; the copper is sanded to expose bare metal with an orbital sander then a light ferric nitrate patina. The verdigris color is copper nitrate.
